Medicare
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for dietetic appointments if you have an eligible referral from your GP or medical practitioner, such as under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP).
Eligible clients can access up to five individual allied health services per calendar year, shared across eligible allied health professions. Your GP will determine whether a dietitian referral is appropriate for your healthcare needs.
SUN Dietetics is not a bulk-billing service. The consultation fee is payable and the applicable Medicare rebate can then be claimed for eligible appointments.
If you're unsure whether you are eligible, speak with your GP about whether a dietitian referral may be appropriate.
DVA
SUN Dietetics welcomes eligible DVA Veteran Card holders.
A valid referral is required for DVA-funded dietetic services. Eligible Veteran Card holders can access dietetic care where there is a clinical need and the treatment is covered by their DVA entitlement.
DVA referrals operate under the Allied Health Treatment Cycle and are generally valid for up to 12 sessions or 12 months, whichever occurs first. A new referral is required for a subsequent treatment cycle.
Eligible DVA services are billed directly to DVA, with no gap fee charged to the client for DVA-funded treatment. DVA services include the consultation (assessment, education, and individualised interventions), as well as optional diet analysis and development of an individual meal plan. Nutritional supplements may be prescribed if clinically relevant.
NDIS
SUN Dietetics provides nutrition and dietetic support for eligible NDIS participants where nutrition support relates to the impact of the participant's disability and is included within their available NDIS funding.
Dietetic support may include nutrition assessment and intervention, meal planning, individualised recipes and resources, support-worker or carer education, nutritional supplementation and strategies to support independence with food and nutrition.
Plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants are welcome.
Please contact SUN Dietetics before your first appointment to discuss your NDIS funding, goals and support needs. Fees and any additional services, such as reports, non-face-to-face work or travel, will be discussed prior to commencing these services.
Private Health Insurance
A referral is not required to claim through private health insurance.
Dietetic services may be eligible for a rebate through your Extras cover, depending on your insurer and level of cover. As rebates vary between policies, please check directly with your private health insurer to confirm your eligibility and expected rebate.
Additional Services
Additional services outside of consultation time may be available depending on your individual needs. These can include personalised meal plans and recipes, detailed dietary analysis, written resources, reports and letters, liaison with other members of your healthcare or support team, support-worker education, grocery store tours, and other non-face-to-face dietetic work.
Where additional fees apply, the expected cost will be discussed with you before the work is completed. NDIS-funded services will be charged in accordance with the applicable NDIS pricing arrangements and the participant's service agreement.
Cancellation policy
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice where possible so that the appointment can be offered to someone else.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, or appointments that are not attended, may incur a cancellation fee. Consideration will always be given to unexpected illness, emergencies and other circumstances outside of your control.
Where appointments are funded by a third party, including the NDIS or DVA, cancellation fees will only be applied where permitted under the relevant funding arrangements.
